GIFT GIVING AT JUAN SUMULONG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

          Pupils of Juan Sumulong Elementary School were fortunate to be recipients of gifts from their internal and external stakeholders. The gift giving activities started last December 3, 2011. The first was sponsored by Alumni Batch 1979. Sponsors gave a Christmas party for 100 selected pupils then distributed bags of groceries during the party.

On December 12, 2011, another gift giving was done by the UST high school department. Selected grade 1, grade 2, and kinder pupils totalling to 105 were given a Christmas party and gifts by UST faculty and students.



On December 14, 2011, a group of alumni of MAPUA- THETA ALPHA RHO, INC fraternity  together with the faculty and staff from De La Salle University – Manila, PE. Dept and their Center for Social Concern and Action (COSCA) shared their blessings to Sumulong pupils.







On December 16, 2011, JSES PTA did their share also by distributing pack of groceries to  selected pupils.

                         The school committee who took charge of the activities ensured that more pupils will be given the opportunity to receive gifts. The school administration, headed by its principal Ms. Angelina Mojica,  is very thankful that Sumulong Elementary School has partners in making pupils happy through the spirit of sharing this Christmas.

Filipino-Chinese Shin Lian Youth Committee Gift Giving Activity at Vicente Lim Elementary School
        The Shian LIan Association, a Fil-Chinese non-stock, non-profit organization held a gift giving activity to three hundred students and one hundred twenty seven teaching and non-teaching staff of Vicente Lim Elementary School last December 11, 2011. Students were given school materials and personnel received towels and towelettes. The activity was witnessed by Dr. Ruth Fuentes, NCR Regional Supervisor for Araling Panlipunan and Values Education.  Games were conducted before the gift giving activity.
        The principal, Ms. Fe Duldulao, coordinated the activities with the Shian Lian Association to ensure the success of the affair.

Awards

Four Manila Teachers Win Awards in National Search for Outstanding Teachers 
          Manila garnered four awards in the National Search for Outstanding Teachers of Children with Exceptionalities. Ms. Salvacion Olinares of P. Gomez Elementary School ( Area of Exceptionality- Hearing Impairment) and Ms. Ma. Cristina M. Cardenal of Sta. Ana Elementary School (Area of Exceptionality- Autism) emerged as first place winners in their respective categories. Ms. Amcy Esteban ( Area of Exceptionality- Giftedness) of Legarda and Ms. Estela F. Sambrano ( Area of Exceptionality – Visual Impairment) of Hizon Elementary School were also recognized as second place winners in the Search.  The awarding ceremony was held at the Cebu Business Center Hotel on December 8, 2010 as the culminating activity of the three-day 2011 National Conference on Teaching Children with Exceptionalities.
          Legarda Elementary School, Regional SPED Center, represented the National Capital Region in the Search for Outstanding SPED Center.

DepEd Manila celebrates 2011 Teachers’ Day
          DepED Manila celebrated its annual Teachers’ Day on December 9, 2011 at the Rizal Memorial Track and Field Stadium. Prizes worth Php 40,000  from elementary/secondary school principals and PHp 40,000 cash from the City Schools were raffled off to the more than 9,000 teachers who attended the activity. Despite the heavy downpour which resulted in suspension of classes in the basic education level, the teachers actively participated in the indoor games. Former superintendent Dr. Arturo Coronel and Hon. Councilor Nino dela Cruz graced the occasion and together with Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ponciano A. Menguito delivered  inspiring messages to the teachers.

DepED Manila and City Government Honors 2011 Outstanding Schools and Exemplary Teachers

DEPED Manila and City Government Honors Outstanding Schools and Exemplary Teachers
DepEd Manila , in cooperation with the City Government of Manila held Awarding Ceremonies at V.Mapa High School to honor Outstanding Schools and Exemplary Teachers in Special Classes on December 8, 2011 at V.Mapa High School. The theme of the activity is “ Kaguruan ng Maynila: Tagapagtaguyod ng Tuwid na Landas”. Guest speaker for the activity is former Manila Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Arturo Coronel.
The City Government released the amount of Php 444,000.00 for cash awards and refreshment expenses of attendees in the activity. The activity was attended by teacher awardees, all elementary and secondary school principals, supervisors and officers-in-charge of academic services and 505 elementary and secondary teachers.    

Student Activities during Boys and Girls' Week

        The boy and girl officials of the Division of City Schools spent the whole day of December 6, 2011 in the session hall of the City watching the councilors conduct their regular session. They were treated to lunch by Vice Mayor Francisco "Isko" Domagoso.
       On Day 3, December 7, 2011, the students had a lakbay aral to historical places in the city. Places they visited were the Malacanang Palace, Fort Santiago and Hospicio de San Jose. The Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry hosted a lunch on the same day for the student officials.
        Day 4 , December 8, 2011 started with the formulation of a Resolution and Action Plan by the Boy and Girl Officials. The closing program for the week-long activities was held at the Araullo High School.

Boys and Girls' Week 2011 Opening Program

2011 Boys and Girls’ Week Opening Program
            Students who were screened and chosen as the Boy and Girl Officials of Manila were introduced to Mayor Alfredo S. Lim and city government officials and employees by Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ponciano A. Menguito during the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony at the Freedom Triangle today, December 5, 2011. The Mayor also recognized the outstanding achievement of Trisha Co Reyes, student of St. Stephen’s High School who bested contestants from 99 countries in a poster making contest conducted for the United Nations Environment Program. Trisha also received cash incentives from DepEd Manila and the City Government.
            The boy and girl officials had breakfast at the Bulwagang Villegas with the city’s department heads after which they were oriented on the structure and functions of the City of Manila. They spent the rest of the day visiting offices and interviewing their counterpart government officials.
            This year’s girl mayor is Danielle Mae J. Lao of T. Paez Integrated School. Girl Vice –Mayor is Razelle S. Aguinaldo of  Manila Science High School.

Procter & Gamble Donates 80 Laptops to Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School


e.Studyante Program Launch by Procter and Gamble at Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School
            Procter & Gamble with partners SMART Communications Inc. and Synergeia Foundation launched the e.Studyante Program at Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School. The program aims to provide technology and connectivity to Filipino students nationwide. With its vision of Isang laptop, mas malawak na kaalaman, mas maliwanag na kinabukasan, the e.studyante program will provide kids from selected schools with XO laptops from the One Laptop per Child Association (OLPC).
            The XO laptop is a rugged, low-power, low-cost connected  laptop especially designed  to make learning more engaging and more fun for students. It comes with different activities to provide children with new opportunities to experiment, explore and express themselves. SMART will be providing the school with free internet connection for one year.
            The first beneficiary school, MLQuezon Elementary , received 80 laptops during the Program Launch on December 2, 2011. The school is under the able leadership of Principal Miss Emir Velasquez.

Five Thousand Students and Teachers Join PNRC Million Volunteer Run

DepED Manila delegation takes time-off from the run for a photo opportunity with Vice President Jejomar Binay


Five thousand fourth year high school Manila students and their teachers, wearing red shirts, joined the Philippine National Red Cross Million Volunteer Run on December 4, 2011.
The run is the highlight of PNRC’s campaign on building a nation of disaster response volunteers in order to serve humanitarian interest. Leading the Manila delegation in the run is Physical Education Supervisor Mr. Joel Dionisio.
The running activity entitles teacher participants to a one-day service credit and supervisors/school officials to a one-day compensatory time-off.

Regional Training Workshop on K to 12 Education at Fernando Ma. Guerrero Elementary School

The Elementary Education Division of the National Capital region conducted a three day live-out training for untrained kindergarten volunteer teachers on December 1-3, 2011 at Fernando Ma. Guerrero Elementary School, Manila. The seminar workshop's main objective is to produce relevant instructional materials for the implementation of an enhanced Kindergarten curriculum.

Each division in the National Capital Region sent its Division Kindergarten supervisor and two untrained kindergarten volunteer teachers to the training. One day service credit was also given to participants who participated in the activity.
