Top Five Schools with Highest Division Achievement Tests Mean Percentage Scores

These are the Top Five Schools who registered high Mean Percentage Scores  in their Division Midyear/Year-end Mean Percentage Scores for School Year 2010-2011. The schools will receive cash awards from the City Government in recognition of their achievement.

The Division Achievement Tests are administered twice a year: the first is a midyear assessment conducted  in November and the second at year-end in March.  All students  take the tests to assess their achievement across all subject areas of their respective year levels. The assessment tests are prepared by Division Subject Area Supervisors and Officers in Charge.

The schools will receive cash awards from the City Government at the Awards Ceremony to be held at V.Mapa High School on December 8, 2011.  The yearly grant of cash awards for schools with high increments serves as incentive for schools to adopt measures and implement intervention programs to increase the performance of students.

Four Manila Teachers Win in Regional Search for SPED Teachers /Legarda Elementary School DEclared as Best Regional SPED School

    Four Manila teachers were declared as winners in the 2011 Regional Search for Outstanding Special Education Teachers. Ms. Amcy Esteban ( teacher of Gifted and Talented Children), Ms. Cristina Cardenal ( teacher of Children with Autism), Ms. Salvacion Olinares ( teacher of  Children with Hearing Impairment) and Ms. Estela F. Sembrano (teacher of Children with Visual Impairment) will represent NCR in the 2011 National Search for Special Education Teachers.
    Legarda Elementary School, under the leadership of  Principal Dr. Dorotea Suarez,  also won  as Outstanding SPED School of the National Capital Region.
    DEpED Manila extends its congratulations to the teachers, the school principal, and SPED Supervisor Crispina Ricana for the distinctions they received.

SMART COMMUNITEACH Program MOA Signing at Epifanio delos Santos Elementary School

 


To formalize SMART Communication's partnership with one of Manila's public schools, a Memorandum of Agreement signing was held at Epifanio delos Santos Elementary School (EDSES) on November 29, 2011. The partnership is now on its second year of implementation under the program CommuniTEACH at EDSES.

CommuniTEACH is one of SMART Communications' community service programs under the Kabalikat sa Edukasyon Initiative. It is a supplementary mentoring program that aims to improve learning among public elementary school students. The program is being implemented in partnership with the Read-to-be-Smart, Smart employees' volunteer organization and Silid Aralan, INc.  The principal of EDSES, Dr. Violeta Q. delos Santos, said that the program started in June 2011, with a batch of twenty slow readers in Grade II  being mentored by SMART employees. The students who manifested improvement in reading levels after a mentoring period of eight Saturdays were replaced by another batch of readers who needed help in reading.

By virtue ofExecutive Order No.31, s. of 2011 signed by Hon. Mayor Alfredo S. Lim, this year's Boys and Girls Week will be celebrated on December 5-9, 2011 with the theme : Kabataang Manileno: Tungo sa Tuwid na Landas.
The week long celebration will commence with the  Self Awareness Activities on December 2, 2011 at Araullo High School.

Manila Science High School Wins Regional Brigada Eskwela Award for 2011

The National Awards Ceremony for the Best Brigada Eskwela Implementers was scheduled on November 25, 2011 at the Central Bank of the Philippines. Among the top winners in the Regional Search in the small school category, Secondary Level is Manila Science High School.

DepEd Manila Wins Major Awards in Regional Book Week Contests

DepED Manila wins major prizes in the recently held Awarding Ceremony at the National Library. The awarding coincided with the opening ceremonies of the 77th National Book Week Celebration held at the National Library of the Philippines on November 24, 2011. The following received major awards from The Philippine Librarians' Association Inc. (PLAI), National Commission for Culture and the Arts-National Committee on Library and Information Services (NCCA-NCLIS) and the National Library of the Philippines (NLP):

Testimonial Luncheon for Elementary School Principal Retirees

 A testimonial luncheon was tendered at the Manila Hotel by the Manila Public Elementary Schools Principals' Association on November 24, 2011 to honor nineteen elementary school principals who retired from the service. Guest of honor was the Hon. Amado S. Bagatsing, Representative of Manila's 5th District. Dr. Ponciano A. Menguito, Superintendent,  assisted by the Assistant Schools Division Superintendents, awarded the plaques. Dr. Isabelita M. Santos, division consultant,  also graced the occasion with her presence.

A regional demonstration lesson in Grade I Mathematics was held at A Albert Elementary School on November 23, 2011. Demonstration Teacher Mary Jean G. dela Cruz conducted the demo lesson on identifying one half of given sets of objects. Dr. Flordelina A. Alquiza, Regional Math Supervisor, Math Division Supervisors of NCR, Manila principals and teachers from different divisions observed the conduct of the lesson. Mrs. Remylinda Soriano, supervisor, and Mrs. Remia Guevarra, Principal of Albert Elementary School collaborated with Division Math Grade I Master Teachers to make the regional demonstration lesson a successful one.

The demonstration lesson is one among the series of demonstration lessons held in the different divisions of the National Capital Region as part of the Project TURN. THis project is in line with the Regional goal to increase pupil performance in Mathematics and for the participants to shop for strategies and innovations for replication in their respective schools.

1.       This year, Dep Ed Manila shall recognize the outstanding accomplishments of Special Teachers. The awarding shall be held at V. Mapa High School on December 8, 2011 from 8 am to 12 noon.

2.       The categories for the Search are:

Elementary and Secondary – Music, Arts, Physical Education,  Guidance Counselor, Canteen Manager, Feeding Teacher, Librarian

Elementary Only – ALS Implementer

Secondary Only – Special Education, Evening Voc (Girls’ Trade) Evening Voc (Boys’ Trade) Health

Journalism Awardees shall be the school paper advisers who were the division winners in an earlier search conducted by Journalism Services.
Likewise, SPED Outstanding Teachers (Elementary Level) who won in the Division Search shall be recognized on December 8, 2011.

3.       The schedule for submission of papers/documents of candidates to respective subject area supervisors is as follows:
a.       Submission of documents by principals to subject area supervisors/officers –in-charge                              November 21-25, 2011 (no district shortlisting)
b.       Screening and evaluation of candidates by subject area supervisors/officers-in charge                November 28-December 2, 1011
4.       Criteria for evaluation of candidates per subject area are available at the Office of the undersigned and the subject area supervisors anytime today.  This will also be released in a division memo by Tuesday, November 22, 2011.

Centex JPMC Teacher Training Institute2011


Centex Manila in cooperation with JP Morgan and Chase Co. conducted a Teacher Training Institute at the Training Center of Cong. LOpez in Tondo, Manila on November 19 and 26, 20111.  Resource speakers were Mr.Mann Rentoy of University of Asia and the Pacific who handled the sessions on Classroom Management and Dr. Ronnie Motilla of Miriam College who handled the Values Session . The Values Session centered on integration of DepED's Core Values of Integrity, Excellence and Accountability in the curriculum. The Teacher Training Institute is on its second phase of implementation, reaching out and teaching teachers with 0-4 years of experience in the First and Second Districts of Manila. The program is managed by Centex Program Director Dr. Ramon Miranda.

PSFI Road Safety Camp 2011



To address the alarming situation of the growing number of road accidents that involve vehicles and pedestrians, Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc. conducted a Road Safety Camp on November 18, 2011 at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Auditorium. Participating students of Grades V and VI in the elementary level and First Year in the secondary level came from selected District VI schools namely: Bagong Barangay Elementary School, Bagong DIwa Elementary School, Beata Elementary School, CP Garcia High School, ERodriguez High School, Mariano Marcos High SChool, St. Joseph Parochial School and J. Zamora Elementary School. Students were given lectures on the value of awareness of road safety signs with emphasis on traffic rules and road courtesy. Modules to supplement DepEd's Curriculum on Road Safety were also distributed. The project which is headed by Mr. Anthony Gamo, Program Manager, was realized with the cooperation of the following: Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation, Polytechnic University of the Philippines( Bachelors in Transportation Management), Safe Kids, Phils., Manila District Traffic Enforcement Office, Automobile Association of the Phils., Phil Global Safety Partnership, LTO, DOTC and MMDA.

Turn Over Ceremony of Laptops

Twenty one laptop computers were turned over to twenty public schools of Manila by Rep. Antonio L. Tinio of the ACT  Party List on November 8, 2011 at the DepEd Conference Room. The laptops were received by the principals and faculty presidents of the recipient schools in the presence of Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Ponciano A. Menguito and the Assistant Schools Division Superintendents.

City Council Resolution No. 306, s.2011

City Council Resolution No. 306, s. of 2011, entitled   "RESOLUTION EXPRESSING WARMEST CONGRATULATIONS TO TRISHA CO REYES OF GAGALANGIN , TONDO, MANILA FOR WINNING THE 20TH UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME'S GLOBAL PAINTING COMPETITION , BESTING FOUR MILLION ENTRIES FROM 99 COUNTRIES, HELD IN BANDUNG, INDONESIA ON SEPTEMBER 27, 2011", was adopted by the City Council of Manila on November 3, 2011.
